The State in Socialist Society

Edited by Neil Harding
State University of New York Press, 1984
256 pp. $34.50

A series of essays on the concept of the state (in relation to society, the Party, the apparat, the various nationalities, etc.) from Marx to present Soviet theory and practice, with additional brief chapters on Poland, Yugoslavia and China. It is a subject that needs periodic review and gets thoroughly professional treatment here in a book written by political scientists largely for their colleagues.
