Published originally in Spanish in 1948, this book fell victim to the author's dispute with Time and only now appears in English. It recounts the personal adventures and observations of the writer, a Canadian journalist, in Central America and the Caribbean during the 1940s. Extended and colorful portraits of Jorge Ubico, Tiburcio Carias, Tacho Somoza, Rafael Trujillo, Elie Lescot and others are well worth reading.
