The literature on Peronism continues to proliferate. This is a competent inquiry into the Argentine labor movement during the 13 years that preceded Per=n's advent to power, and his relationship to it thereafter when it served as the "vertebral column" of his drive to achieve a strong and independent state. The author sees Per=n not as the father of the modern labor movement in Argentina but as "its midwife and tutor."
