Here for the first time we have a detailed reconstruction of Bulgaria's exit from the war, the clash of American and Soviet policies there during the armistice period, and the ultimate and probably preordained victory of Soviet power and Bulgarian communism. American policy, with all the relevant documents now available, gets the fair hearing it has rarely received. Soviet policy remains more obscure, but this is a measured appraisal, and the extensive use of Soviet and Bulgarian material is most helpful.
