Ethiopia: Politics, Economics and Society
Ethiopia: Politics, Economics and Society
By Peter Schwab
Lynne Rienner, 1985, 134 pp.

This sympathetic account of Ethiopia's revolution describes the impact of Marxism on Ethiopia's political and economic life through the end of 1984. In the author's view, the Ethiopian government has moved through a phase of violent conflict and consolidation to one of widespread popular support. Schwab's perspective would work to better advantage for the reader if it yielded concrete information about what is actually happening on the ground in Ethiopia: what he serves up here, instead, remains largely at the level of theory and generalization.
