Ancient Affections: Ethnic Groups and Foreign Policy

By Laurence Halley

Praeger, 1985, 190 pp.

In 1975 Congress imposed an embargo on American arms shipments to Turkey because of Turkey's invasion of Cyprus. The author of this rather rambling study argues that the embargo was the result almost entirely of pressure by Greek-Americans who placed ethnic "affections" above the American national interest. Thin chapters on Polish-Americans and Irish-Americans are appended.
