Journey to the Forbidden China

By Steven W. Mosher

Free Press, 1985, 180 pp.

This book adds little to the author's earlier account in Broken Earth (reviewed in Foreign Affairs, Winter 1983/84). Moreover, the unremitting stress on China's poverty and lack of freedom, untempered by any acknowledgment of the stunning changes that have taken place in China during the past seven years, suggests more of a desire to score points than to present a balanced picture.
