Kennedy in Vietnam: American Vietnam Policy, 1960-1963
By William J. Rust and the Editors of U.S. News Books
Scribner's, 1985, 252 pp

This is an important and readable contribution to the history of American involvement in Vietnam. The authors have uncovered some fascinating new fragments of evidence, especially about the American role in the downfall of Diem. The perennial question of whether, if Kennedy had lived, the U.S. would have descended further into the war, is posed; the authors admit it is impossible to answer definitely. But they incline toward a no.
