The author promises a novel approach, the application of social science research to the difficult policy problems confronting the United States in dealing with the Arab-Israeli conflict. His treatment both of the present dilemmas and the historical background is, however, quite conventional, and also eminently reasonable. His main point is that Israel, in its own interest and in the interest of peace, should give up the occupied territories, and that America should use its influence, including decisions on military and economic aid, to help Israel see the light.
