The authors, mostly British academics, have expert knowledge and argue well; their main conclusions do not differ much from other studies, as in the emphasis on the limited effect of trade controls and the slow diffusion of technology in socialist countries. The importer's point of view is reflected in an interesting paper by a Hungarian economist.
