Crisis and Recovery in Sub-Saharan Africa

Edited by Tore Rose

OECD Development Centre, 1985, 335 pp.

A group of scholars from Britain's Institute of Development Studies and France's Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches sur le Développement International survey the causes of Africa's economic crisis and discuss remedies in a broad range of sectors. The book's strength, however, lies not in its often general and tentative prescriptions but in its skeptical scrutiny of current common wisdom on "policy reform."
