Useful summary statements on how Israel, the PLO, Saudi Arabia, the U.S., the European Community and the U.S.S.R. look on the question of Arab-Israeli settlement and terms of peace. Syria and Jordan are left out. Surprisingly perhaps, the assorted peace plans have many similarities; unsurprisingly, they have equally slight chances of realization. Papers on Lebanon (quite enlightening) and on the Iraq-Iran war (less so) are added to broaden the Middle East war-and-peace picture. Among the well-qualified contributors are Don Peretz, Helena Cobban, William Quandt and R. D. McLaurin.
