The Rise of the Counter-Establishment: From Conservative Ideology to Political Power
The Rise of the Counter-Establishment: From Conservative Ideology to Political Power
By Sidney Blumenthal
Times Books, 1986, 343 pp

A readable intellectual biography and critique of the way in which conservatives and neoconservatives have emulated the once-dominant liberal intellectual establishment in recognizing that ideas have consequences, but that they need to be systematically advanced through books, magazines, and the financial encouragement of foundations. Mr. Blumenthal takes his subjects seriously, although he does not share their assumptions.
