Star Wars: A Defense Expert's Case Against the Strategic Defense Initiative

By Dr. Robert M. Bowman

Jeremy P. Tarcher, 1986, 180 pp.

Written by an air force veteran of 22 years, who worked on early space defense programs and who was also a General Dynamics executive, this book is not without authority. It is a strongly worded critique of SDI. Although covering more the technical than the political side, it is written in a clear and accessible style. Bowman argues that President Reagan's initial intentions in 1983 have been subverted, and that SDI must now be seen principally as a program to develop offensive weapons disguised as defense.
