Impressions of Law in East Germany

By Daniel John Meador
University Press of Virginia, 1986
320 pp. $25.00

An American law professor's description of the GDR's legal system, useful mainly for specialists in the theory, institutions and practice of law in communist states. Based largely on interviews in the course of a three-month visit, the book is necessarily incomplete but is nevertheless a rounded survey with much information. The author adds some general concluding comments on life in East Germany.
