Pacific Rim: Area of Change, Area of Opportunity

By David Aikman
Little, Brown, 1986
193 pp. $8.95

This is a well-written and balanced journalistic account of recent economic and political developments in China, Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. It concludes that the Pacific Rim is the most exciting new field of opportunity for American business. But the author warns that "there is still far too little fundamental familiarity with language, society, and market among many American companies. . . . A consistent explanation of Japanese marketing success in the Pacific Rim, as well as the rest of the world, is the thoroughness with which Japanese companies tend to study a given area before making any major marketing decision."
