Robin Edmonds, longtime British diplomat and once head of the American Department of the Foreign Office, combines his personal insight and thorough archival research in Washington and London in this detailed, although somewhat episodic, history. The title is a bit misleading because the "mould" of Anglo-American partnership was never set firmly or for long-as the author's evidence demonstrates. If the book has a hero, it is Ernest Bevin.
