This book is about the rise and accomplishments of the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) as a lobby of unprecedented influence over Congress. One cannot write on this subject without a point of view, and Mr. Tivnan's is that AIPAC has stifled even the most moderate criticism of its hard-line Beginesque stance, thereby injuring the interests of Israel, the United States and peace in the Middle East. He believes that it is wrong for Israel to occupy and annex the West Bank and that the PLO must have a voice in a settlement. His research is sound and his tone temperate, but somber.
