Containment: Concept and Policy

This hefty collection of recollections and original articles is based on a symposium sponsored by the National Defense University and the Foreign Service Institute to mark the 40th anniversary of George Kennan's original formulation of the concept of "containment." It includes an introduction by Professor Gaddis, recollections by Kennan and others who were in government in 1946-47, and 28 essays on the history and future of containment from regional, functional and theoretical angles. Although some of the material is thin, the overall quality is excellent.
