Ideology And Power In The Middle East: Essays In Honor Of George Lenczowski
Ideology And Power In The Middle East: Essays In Honor Of George Lenczowski
Edited by Peter J. Chelkowski and Robert J. Pranger
Duke University Press, 1988, 530 pp

Although the real glue holding this book together is the esteem in which all the authors, as colleagues and former students, hold George Lenczowski, the editors have made a serious and fairly successful effort to organize the contributions around the themes of ideology and political power. They are, for the most part, studies of developments in individual countries or political movements, but they are not made to conform to any set pattern or to add up to a textbook survey of the region; thus, most authors are able to make good use of their own specialized research and analysis. The book has its ups and downs but overall maintains a high standard.
