American, European and Japanese authors write on current trends in the U.S.S.R. and on some aspects of Soviet foreign relations. While the "trilateral" approach to world problems is not new, this particular example is to be welcomed because of what it shows of the development of Soviet studies in Japan. In content there is not much unsaid elsewhere by the same or other experts, but those chapters dealing with the Soviet Union and its neighbors in East Asia are of more than passing interest.
