In this volume, which stemmed from a 1986 Thai-U.S. conference, there are excellent contributions on Thailand's political and social structure, U.S. policy toward Thailand, regional affairs, the Cambodian problem, trade relations and global economic trends. There is a particularly strong chapter on Thailand's security prospects by Karl D. Jackson and another informative essay on the Thai political system by William Overholt.
