Beyond Brundtland: Green Development In The 1990s

By Thijs de la Court
New Horizons Press, 1990
128 pp. $12.95

This Dutch environmentalist summarizes the influential report of the U.N. Commission on Environment and Development and reports the criticisms it has received. Those who believe that the commission's concept of "sustainable development" is too favorable to economic growth and too optimistic about future technology apparently believe that real solutions require "a just sharing of power, access to natural resources on the part of local populations, and the conservation of the cultural and social integrity of the different societies of the world."
