The Thaw Generation: Coming Of Age In The Post-Stalin Era

This is the autobiography of Alexeyeva, author of an earlier and authoritative book on Soviet dissenters (Soviet Dissent, noted in Foreign Affairs, Fall 1985). In this personal story she gives many illustrations of the struggle of those who risked their lives and liberty for freedom of expression and human rights in the Khrushchev and Brezhnev years. They were a small group; the names are familiar-Sakharov, Daniel, Orlov, Shcharansky, Kopelev, Bogoraz, Marchenko and others-and their story, as she tells it, is one of interrogations, trials, imprisonment and sacrifice.
