The Twilight Struggle: The Soviet Union V. The United States Today

By Constantine C. Menges

The AEI Press, 1990, 428 pp.

The book throbs with the anticommunist fervor of the early years of the Reagan administration, when the author was one of the more flamboyant middle-level architects of the Reagan Doctrine of assisting insurgencies against Soviet-supported regimes. It is valuable as historical narrative and as an exposition of an ideological current of former times, before the current crisis of the Soviet Union, but is quite out of date as description and prescription for the present.
