Catholicism And Politics In Communist Societies
Catholicism And Politics In Communist Societies
Edited by Pedro Ramet
Duke University Press, 1990, 454 pp.

Many of the communist societies are no longer communist, changes in eastern Europe having put a terminal point on a 40-year period during which the Catholic Church was harassed and persecuted. The principal chapters describe that experience in six east European countries with accuracy and understanding, addressing Vatican policy and the situation of local Catholics. There are also chapters on the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, Cuba and Nicaragua, and one of special interest on Karol Wojtyla's views on Marxism.
