Exit: Toward Post-Stalinism
Exit: Toward Post-Stalinism
By Pavel Campeanu
Sharpe, 1991, 188 pp

A wide-ranging critique of Stalinism, which the author calls "premature anti-capitalism," as it existed in all the communist countries, the system of total control by an arbitrary central power over both economy and polity. The study is marked by a number of sharp insights and new ways of defining familiar phenomena; it also devotes much space to clothing simple truths in complicated terminology. The author, a former Romanian communist official, has added an epilogue giving a brief assessment of the 1989 Romanian revolution in the context of the general themes of the book.
