Winner Takes All: A Season In Israel

By Stephen Brook
Hamish Hamilton/New York: Viking, 1991
363 pp. $22.95

A book of travel, observation and conversation by an English Jew desirous of understanding Israeli society and fully aware of its complexities. Written with grace and humor, it reflects also the tension that is ever present in Israel as well as the lack of consensus on the country's future and the ways of getting there. The author's own views on Israeli-Palestinian relations are rational and sensible but provide no keys to possible settlement.
