Ec Trade Policy And The Third World: An Irish Perspective
By Alan Matthews
Gill and Macmillan, 1991, 246 pp.
Written under the auspices of Trocaire, the Catholic Agency for World Development, with financial support from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Dublin, this is an excellent survey of the trade policies of the European Community and its member governments as they affect developing countries. Thoroughgoing and quite precise, it is forthright in detailing the various kinds of protection of European industries and the restraints put on measures intended to favor the developing countries. It also makes suggestions about structural adjustments, especially in Ireland, that would enlarge the market for imports from the developing countries.
