An American journalist tells of her experiences in the Gaza Strip, where she spent the year 1989. She devotes the entire book to describing cruelties and humiliations inflicted on the Palestinians by the Israeli occupying forces. It is a one-sided story in that no effort is made to spell out and balance the interests, ambitions and fears on both sides of the conflict. But this is nonetheless a horrifying account and underlines the point that there will be nothing but more violence, repression and injustice as long as the occupation continues.
