Reform In Eastern Europe
Reform In Eastern Europe
By Oliver Blanchard and others
MIT Press, 1991, 124 pp

Five noted economists connected with the World Economic Group of the United Nations University present a terse and pointed report on what the now-free east European nations must do to make the transition to a market economy. The prescription is along the lines of stabilization, price liberalization, privatization and restructuring, with no halfhearted compromises along the way. The reasoning is sound and the advice good, but the text is very general, paying little attention to differing political and other conditions in the various countries.
