This book examines the international dimensions of the Biafra war of secession, the Angolan civil war and, more briefly, the two Shaba invasions of 1977 and 1978. The author discusses the motives behind intervention by external powers and how these interventions shaped the outcome of each conflict. He relies entirely on previously published sources, but his comparative treatment is informative, despite a somewhat contrived attempt to schematize the findings into general theorems in the book's conclusion.
