Careful and ingenious analysis of the many kinds of damage that would be brought on by global warming leads to a recommendation for an aggressive program of international abatement." Though other things come into the picture, the main target must be the use of carbon fuels, and Cline estimates that there are some attractive cost-benefit possibilities. Since damage increases as time passes it is sensible to look ahead to, say, the year 2300, but the recommendations call for a staged program to allow for adaptation as scientific knowledge increases.
