Tsoukalis succeeds very well in his aim "to capture the shape of the emerging regional economic system in Europe." Based on years of close observation, his thoughtful book explains the revival of integration but gives full weight to the factors that impede the process. In addition to covering all the familiar topics, he has a good chapter on the labor market and social policy where very difficult issues remain unresolved.
