This book aims to add academic depth to the Afrocentricity debate by demonstrating that Western social scientists of both the liberal and Marxist variety have misinterpreted Africa's history. To replace their stereotypes and distortions, the author offers some of his own interpretations. Readers are likely to disagree about whether these are a useful corrective, but the ensuing arguments may be constructive.
