In a series of books that examine the effects of EC membership for several states, this volume, written by 23 French social scientists and civil servants, tries to evaluate the impact of the community on all aspects of French policy. Despite the brevity of each chapter, the book provides considerable information. On the whole, the evaluation is positive, but many of the pieces were written before the turmoil of 1992-93, and there is only one reference to unemployment. A greater sense of politics would have helped.
