International Human Rights

By Jack Donnelly
Westview Press, 1993
206 pp. $39.95

A useful primer on human rights for college courses, this book covers the history of human rights as a foreign policy issue, the philosophical underpinnings of rights, the question of universalism vs. relativism, etc. It is somewhat marred by a tendency to focus its case studies on human rights abuses by right-wing regimes.
