Berlin of the 1920s and the audience of today deserve better than this rewrite of German sources, a catalogue, anecdotal and racy, of some of the greatest figures and artistic developments of the time. But the life of the city was so dramatic that even this unoriginal and, in matters historical or political, often inaccurate compilation has some interest. A couple of excellent maps, some photographs, and many fine quotes, mostly from obvious sources, add value to the book.
