The acknowledgments here are suggestive: the author thanks generals and admirals for their interviews and guidance. A good book, but an inside story told to a sympathetic journalist by top brass. More detached, comprehensive, and possibly skeptical studies will surely come, but in the meantime this tells a large part of the story and provides insight into the mentality of the American high command.
