Western Dominance and Political Islam: Challenge and Response

For those whose view of Islamic political movements has been excessively skewed by the media portrayal of Islamic fundamentalism, the author offers a serious effort to reconcile Islamic beliefs with the modern world. A number of important Islamic modernists are discussed. Missing, however, is a political analysis of why these enlightened views seem to have such a modest popular following.
